  • Last-minute summer vacation bookings by Israelis cost up to 35% more than early reservations.
  • About 70% of August vacation spots are already booked, limiting availability.
  • Average family vacation costs around $4,000 for four nights including flights and hotels.
  • Most Israelis prefer all-inclusive beach resorts in Greece, Cyprus, and Bulgaria.
  • Growing interest in combining city and nature trips in Eastern Europe and organized family tours in Europe.
  • A discount window exists in the ten days before Tisha B'Av with lower prices on flights and packages.

As summer approaches, Israeli travelers are increasingly booking vacations to popular Mediterranean spots like Greece and Cyprus, as well as to destinations such as Dubai, Thailand, and Eastern Europe. Travel companies report a surge in last-minute bookings, which are significantly more expensive than early reservations. Tal Noy, Vice President of Strategy and Marketing at Issta, notes that prices for summer vacations can be up to 35% higher when booked late, with families paying hundreds or even over a thousand dollars more compared to early bookings made in January. Nir Mazor, Vice President of Kesher Aviation, warns that about 70% of August vacation spots are already sold out, making last-minute plans costly and limited in availability.

Typical summer vacation costs for a family of four average around $4,000 for a four-night package including flights and hotels, while couples can expect to pay about $1,800. Most Israeli travelers prefer all-inclusive packages at beach resorts in Rhodes, Crete, Paphos, and Burgas, with 60% choosing such bundled deals. However, there is growing interest in combining city and nature experiences in destinations like Budapest, Krakow, and Georgia, where travelers rent cars and explore beyond urban centers. Organized family tours focusing on nature in the Black Forest, France, the Netherlands, and northern Italy are also in demand.

Despite high prices and limited availability, Mazor highlights a brief window of opportunity for more affordable travel during the ten days before the Jewish fast of Tisha B'Av, when demand naturally dips. This period offers discounts of up to several tens of percent on flights and vacation packages. The data also reveal Dubai as a surprising top choice despite its summer heat, alongside rising popularity for Montenegro and direct flights to Thailand's Bangkok and Phuket. Overall, Israeli summer vacationers are seeking "net vacations" focused on relaxation and disconnection, primarily through family-friendly all-inclusive resorts in the Mediterranean region.
