Maccabi Haifa announced on July 16, 2026, that American-Serbian forward Andrea Novakovic has agreed to terms with the club and is expected to arrive in Israel next week for medical tests. Novakovic's previous club was Serie B side Reggina in Italy, where he made 33 appearances and provided five assists. Although he had a contract for another season, Novakovic left amid significant controversy.

Reports from Italian media ilrestodelcarlino reveal that Novakovic never fully connected with Reggina's local fanbase and was reportedly one of the leaders of a player revolt that contributed to the dismissal of coach Davide Dionigi. Alongside the team captain and another player, Novakovic was implicated in this internal conflict. His departure saved Reggina a substantial salary payment, as the club was reluctant to continue paying his high wages while seeking a buyer.

Reggina considered waiting to sell Novakovic for a higher fee but decided against it due to the risks and the timing, as any transfer would likely occur only by late August, meaning two more months of salary payments. The club's sporting director concluded that an immediate termination was the best way to restore stability. Novakovic's move to Maccabi Haifa marks a new chapter after a turbulent period in Italy.
