Lital Shemesh, a news anchor for Israel's News14, sharply criticized Channel 12's special report that portrayed Gazans living in Europe as refugees living in fear. The report, filmed in Belgium by journalist Ohad Ben Hamo, included interviews with Gazans who fled their homes and now face challenges abroad. Shemesh shared a clip from the report on her Instagram account and condemned it, saying, "They traveled all the way to Europe to pity Gazans who raided our cities, looted, raped, and hid abductees. Applause."
The report featured an interview where one Gazan expressed no fear of speaking openly to an Israeli journalist, calling Israelis "the enemy, the other side." Ben Hamo noted that in some city areas, it is difficult to get by without knowing Arabic, as the local population includes migrants mainly from Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon, especially Khan Yunis.
Shemesh's post sparked a wave of reactions online, with many condemning the Channel 12 report as "shocking" and questioning the credibility of the interviewees. Comments included accusations that the report showed misplaced sympathy for people described as criminals and calls to stop referring to them as refugees.
