The cryptocurrency market has shown signs of recovery recently, with Bitcoin trading around $64,600 and briefly reaching $65,500, its highest level since late June. Other major cryptocurrencies like Ethereum have also seen gains, rising about 2.4% in the past day and 9.5% over the last week. These increases followed lower-than-expected US inflation data, which suggested the Federal Reserve might adopt a less aggressive interest rate policy, benefiting risk assets such as stocks and cryptocurrencies.

Amid this market upswing, a remarkable story emerged of a private Bitcoin miner who successfully mined a full block on the Bitcoin network using a small, inexpensive device called Bitaxe, costing less than $200. The miner solved block number 957,382 and received the full mining reward of 3.125 bitcoins, worth approximately $200,000 at current prices. This event was verified by the Public Pool mining pool.

Bitcoin mining typically involves millions of machines worldwide competing to solve complex mathematical puzzles, with most mining power concentrated in large farms operating thousands of advanced devices. In contrast, the Bitaxe device used by the home miner produces about 1 tera-hash per second, a tiny fraction of the network's total computing power. The achievement is likened to winning the lottery by buying a single ticket.

While extremely rare, this is not an isolated incident. According to Bennet data, this was the 12th solo block mined by a private miner in 2026. Over the past 12 months, private miners have mined 24 blocks, a 41% increase from the previous year, earning a total of 75.4 bitcoins valued at around $4.7 million. Due to the low probability of solo mining success with small devices, most miners join mining pools, where participants combine computing power and share rewards proportionally.
