Israeli EVR Motors Partners with Indian Giant Larsen & Toubro to Power 100,000 Electric Motorcycles by 2027
EVR Motors, an Israeli startup from Petah Tikva, has developed a powerful and affordable electric motor for electric vehicles and is now advancing talks with Indian automotive manufacturers to deploy its technology. The company signed a partnership with Larsen & Toubro's systems division, a major Indian infrastructure and industrial conglomerate, to jointly develop and produce a new generation of electric powertrains for private and commercial vehicles. Production is set to begin in 2024, with plans to have 100,000 electric two-wheelers equipped with EVR’s motors on Indian roads by the end of 2027.
India, the world's most populous country and the fourth-largest automotive market globally, is accelerating its electric vehicle adoption to meet a government target of 30% electric vehicles in new sales by 2030. Despite strong growth, with over 2.4 million electric vehicles currently on the road and a market valued at $19 billion in 2025, India lags behind China and Europe in EV penetration. Local manufacturers like Tata, Mahindra, and Maruti, alongside international groups such as Volkswagen and Nissan-Renault-Mitsubishi, are active in the market.
EVR Motors, led by CEO Ofer Doron, a former aerospace industry plant manager, has raised $28 million and employs about 50 people, mostly in Israel. The company will not build its own manufacturing plants but will license its motor technology to producers for royalties. Their motor powers the Indian electric motorcycle Ultra Violet F99, which recently set a local speed record of 258 km/h and boasts 120 horsepower and 20 kgm torque.
Ophir Shoham, EVR Motors board member, emphasized the strategic importance of the Indian market and praised Larsen & Toubro EPS as an ideal partner due to its engineering expertise and manufacturing capacity. Co-founder and president Eli Rozinsky highlighted that the collaboration will enable wide-scale deployment of EVR’s innovative, reliable, and production-friendly electric motors tailored to India’s transportation needs.
