Hapoel Tel Aviv has secured a major signing this summer by acquiring Zach Leday, one of the most proven and versatile power forwards in European basketball. Leday, who previously starred in the EuroLeague with teams like Olympiacos, Zalgiris, and Milan, arrives following a challenging period for Hapoel after the departure of Yam Madar. The club aims to fill a critical gap at the power forward position, which was a weak spot last season despite strong rosters elsewhere.

Leday, known for his deadly shooting and defensive toughness, rejected a lucrative offer to return to Partizan Belgrade, choosing instead to join Hapoel with the goal of competing for the EuroLeague title. His ability to adapt to various offensive roles and his high three-point shooting accuracy (over 47% in recent seasons) make him an ideal fit for Hapoel’s star-studded lineup, which includes Vasilije Micic, Antonio Blakeney, and Elijah Bryant.

The signing also raises questions about the role of Israeli player Tomer Ginat, who may see reduced playing time in the EuroLeague due to Leday’s arrival and the retention of Ish Wainwright. Managing playing time and team chemistry will be crucial for coach Dimitris Itoudis to maintain squad harmony and maximize performance. Leday’s unique shooting style and post-up skills add offensive diversity, potentially resolving Hapoel’s struggles with late-clock offensive sets.

Overall, Leday’s addition is seen as a key piece to help Hapoel Tel Aviv rebound from last season’s setbacks and push toward the Final Four, fulfilling the club’s ambitions under Itoudis and owner Ofer Yanai.
