In response to a sharp rise in antisemitism, the UK government has announced a major security investment exceeding 250 million pounds (approximately one billion shekels) over the next three years to protect Jewish communities and institutions across England and Wales. This funding will enable the deployment of 500 additional police officers to increase patrols and secure Jewish neighborhoods, schools, synagogues, and community centers. London, home to 54% of the Jewish population in England and Wales, will receive 300 of these officers, with another 80 assigned to the Greater Manchester area. An additional 43 million pounds (about 173 million shekels) will support police forces in other regions with significant Jewish populations.

The investment also supports the continuation of the "Sharet" project, which places undercover officers and experts within communities to detect suspicious activities and prevent serious crimes. This initiative aims to enhance national counterterrorism capabilities to ensure no religious community feels threatened. The government’s efforts follow a series of arson attacks targeting Jewish properties and an elevation of the national terror threat level from "substantial" to "severe."

Home Office Minister Sarah Jones emphasized the government's commitment to combating antisemitism, stating, "We are providing record funding to help keep Jewish people in the UK safe, supporting visible policing and protection around synagogues, schools, and community centers." Earlier this year, the government allocated additional funds to support communities at risk and to combat antisemitism in schools and higher education institutions. The Online Safety Bill also mandates tech companies to remove illegal content, including antisemitic material.

The National Health Service and Department for Education have launched urgent reviews of antisemitism within their sectors, which have also experienced increased incidents. Chancellor Rachel Reeves affirmed, "There is no place for the poison of antisemitism in our country, and we stand with our Jewish communities."

The Community Security Trust (CST) reported a record 3,700 antisemitic incidents in 2023, many linked to Middle East conflicts, with a notable rise in violent attacks and arson against Jewish sites. The government’s comprehensive plan includes enhanced intelligence, investigations, and coordinated responses to hate crimes, aiming to provide sustained, visible security and strengthen community relations over the coming years.
