Parking Dispute Leads to Stabbing and Beating of Cousins with an Iron Bar

The State Attorney’s Office today (Wednesday) filed an indictment with the Beersheba District Court against 29-year-old Hyman Qashaaleh of Rahat, on charges of serious violent offenses allegedly committed together with his father and brother in the context of a family dispute.

According to the indictment, filed by attorney Noga Kidar of the Southern District Prosecutor’s Office, a dispute developed between Hyman, his father Issa and his brother Nissim, and their cousins, who live nearby, over where one cousin’s truck was parked near the family homes.

The indictment says that about three months ago, the argument escalated and the three attacked one of their cousins. It is alleged that they beat him with an iron bar and prevented him from getting up. Later, when the complainant’s brother, the truck driver, arrived at the scene, the three turned on him as well. While he was trying to stop the confrontation, they tried to strike him with an iron bar, and the father, Issa, stabbed him in the back. It is further alleged that Issa later encouraged Hyman and Nissim to continue beating the cousin.

As a result of the incident, both complainants required medical treatment.

In the request to hold him in custody until the end of proceedings, attorney Kidar noted that Hyman fled after the incident and was not located for a period of time, and that he poses a danger and there is concern he may obstruct legal proceedings.

Qashaaleh is charged with aggravated assault with intent to cause serious injury and assault under aggravated circumstances. An indictment against Issa and Nissim was filed close to the time of the incident. The case was investigated by the Rahat police station.
