TikTok Launches New AI Tools to Combat Automated Misinformation Accounts

The story · English

TikTok is intensifying its efforts to fight misleading content generated by artificial intelligence by introducing new measures targeting accounts that spread large volumes of automated and AI-based spam. This move responds to a sharp increase in the use of AI tools to create videos and content at scale, which complicates users' ability to discern reliable information and challenges original content creators to stand out on the platform.

Central to TikTok's initiative is a pilot program for enhanced detection systems set to roll out in the coming weeks. These systems will focus on identifying accounts distributing automated and deceptive content, particularly in sensitive areas such as politics, current affairs, financial advice, and medical information. TikTok emphasizes that spam has been prohibited on the platform since its inception and that it already employs automated tools to detect and remove fake activity. In the first quarter of 2026 alone, the company removed over 86 million fake accounts.

Additionally, TikTok has joined the steering committee of the Content Authenticity Initiative (C2PA), which promotes the Content Credentials standard. This standard aims to increase transparency about content origins, allowing users to verify whether images or videos were significantly created or edited using AI. Since implementing this standard, TikTok has labeled over 3 billion videos as AI-generated content. The labeling process combines Content Credentials, creator tagging tools, and an invisible watermark technology developed by TikTok.
