Van der Poel Wins Stage 9 of Tour de France Before First Rest Day
Dutch cyclist Mathieu van der Poel secured victory in the ninth stage of the Tour de France on Sunday in Oslo. Riding for Alpecin-QuickStep, van der Poel was part of a breakaway group that covered 94 kilometers ahead of the peloton. He out-sprinted Tobias Johannessen and Tom Pidcock in the final meters to claim the stage win. French rider Alex Baudin finished fourth, six seconds behind the trio, followed by the main peloton, which was unable to close the gap to the breakaway.
In the overall general classification, there were no changes at the top. Tadej Pogačar maintained his yellow jersey with a lead of 2 minutes and 42 seconds over Jonas Vingegaard and 3 minutes and 27 seconds over Isaac del Toro. Remco Evenepoel and Juan Ayuso remained in fourth and fifth places respectively, with time gaps of 3 minutes and 30 seconds and 3 minutes and 34 seconds. The race is now approaching its first rest day, marking a pause in the prestigious event.
