At Least 15 Tourists Die in Boat Capsizing Near Vietnam's Phu Quoc Island

A boat capsized off the coast of Phu Quoc Island in southern Vietnam on July 11, resulting in the deaths of at least 15 tourists. The vessel was carrying 32 Indian tourists and 4 crew members when it overturned approximately 400 meters from the island while returning from a cruise. Local coast guard and navy forces rescued 21 people and recovered 15 bodies, including two women and 13 men. The survivors were taken to a hospital for treatment. Witnesses described rough waters and noted that many passengers were trapped inside the boat, complicating rescue efforts. Nearby boats responded quickly to the overturned vessel, helping to pull passengers from the water.

The Indian Embassy in Vietnam confirmed ongoing investigations and search operations, establishing two control rooms to assist families of the victims. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the passengers were attending an annual meeting of a private mobile phone company, and embassy representatives are present at the site. The cause of the capsizing remains under investigation by local authorities.
