Colombian Goalkeeper Rene Higuita's Villa Seized Over Pablo Escobar Links

Rene Higuita, the legendary Colombian goalkeeper from the 1980s and 1990s, is facing legal troubles after a Colombian court ordered the seizure of his luxury villa. The property, located in Medellin, was reportedly owned by notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar until 1992 and was purchased with cartel funds. Investigations revealed that signatures and documents were forged to conceal the villa's origins before it eventually came into Higuita's possession.

Higuita denies any involvement in criminal activities related to the case, asserting that he bought the villa with his own money and was unaware of its illicit history. He described himself as a victim of circumstances and plans to appeal the court's decision. Higuita emphasized the difficulty of tracing property ownership in the 1990s due to limited technology, stating, "I am the victim in this entire story."
