MK Saada Criticizes Draft Law While MK Tal Miron Calls Government Criminal Over Legal Disputes

The controversial Israeli draft law continues to stir political turmoil, highlighted by a sharp exchange between Likud MK Moshe Saada and Yesh Atid MK Shelly Tal Miron during a radio panel on Thursday morning. Saada openly criticized the draft law, calling it "not good, not ethical, not moral, and not Zionist," yet he emphasized that the coalition's alliance with the ultra-Orthodox parties is based on shared values rather than mere interests, assuring the bloc's stability.

In response, Tal Miron accused the coalition of undermining the rule of law and managing the country based on political calculations. She claimed the ultra-Orthodox parties have become "tools of extortion" against Prime Minister Netanyahu and urged Saada not to support legislation that, in her view, betrays Likud's principles.

The debate intensified over the government's stance on Supreme Court rulings. Saada argued that the court is overstepping its authority and insisted the Knesset must set clear boundaries, supporting legal measures to overturn court decisions. Conversely, Tal Miron warned that defying the Supreme Court threatens the foundations of democracy, labeling a government that refuses to comply with court rulings as "criminal." She also criticized the coalition for focusing on draft evasion laws instead of addressing issues related to full-time soldiers and combat veterans.

The discussion also touched on the Basic Law on Torah Study. Saada noted that the clause equating Torah study with significant military service was removed due to lack of consensus and described the law as barely symbolic. Tal Miron cautioned that this legislation could lead to serious legal and economic consequences, echoing warnings from legal experts and professionals.
