Netanyahu Offers Legal Analyst David Petel a Secured Spot on Likud's Knesset List

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has offered a secured position on the Likud party's candidate list for the upcoming Knesset elections to attorney David Petel, a legal analyst and panelist on Channel 14. Petel holds both a bachelor's and master's degree in law and is known for his sharp criticism of Israel's judicial system and strong support for the ongoing judicial reforms.

This offer comes as part of a broader arrangement following several meetings between Netanyahu, Likud's Constitution Committee chairman Haim Katz, and other officials. Netanyahu has secured ten reserved spots on the party list within the top 35 positions, including nine slots up to number 30 and an additional one likely at position 35. The reserved spots currently identified are numbers 2, 4, 6, 8, 11, 15, 18, 22, 29, and possibly 35, while district candidates are expected to fill positions 27, 28, 30, and 31.

David Petel is affiliated with the Kohelet Policy Forum and is recognized for his conservative, right-wing, and economically liberal views. He is a prominent voice in Israeli media advocating for judicial reform, particularly criticizing judicial activism, law enforcement, and the office of the Attorney General. This move by Netanyahu signals an effort to strengthen the party's legal and ideological representation ahead of the elections.

The Likud primaries are approaching, and Netanyahu's strategic placement of candidates like Petel reflects his priorities for the party's future parliamentary composition.
