94-Year-Old New Zealander Sets Guinness Record as Oldest Water Skier

Brian Murray, a 94-year-old resident of New Zealand, has officially been recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest water skier in the world. On April, at the age of 94 years and 318 days, Murray skied on Lake Karata, setting the new global record. He began water skiing in 1955 and has competed in numerous competitions across New Zealand since then. For Murray, the sport has become a personal challenge and a family tradition, as all his relatives also participate in water skiing.

Murray shared that many people tell him he serves as an inspiration across all age groups, motivating him to continue demonstrating that staying active is possible at any age. Despite his advanced years, he has no plans to retire from the sport and intends to return to water skiing this coming summer with the goal of breaking his own record. He sums up his life philosophy by saying, "You don't stop being active because you get old, you get old because you stop being active."
