South Carolina Parrot Spodles Named World's Oldest African Grey at 32 Years
Spodles, a 32-year-old African Grey parrot from South Carolina, has been officially recognized by the Guinness World Records as the oldest living parrot of its species. Owned by Amanda Beth, Spodles was acquired from her mother in 1997 when he was three years old. Despite his advanced age, Spodles remains lively and starts each day with the phrase "beautiful bird," though he is less talkative than in his younger years.
Amanda Beth shared that she often jokes Spodles refuses to die, which motivates her to keep feeding him. She also noted his charming personality and speculated that his first owner was a kind woman, based on his behavior and words. Typically, African Grey parrots live between 15 and 20 years, making Spodles' longevity remarkable and well beyond the average lifespan for his species.
The recognition highlights not only Spodles' age but also his enduring spirit and the special bond he shares with his owner, illustrating the unique companionship between humans and their pets.
