Egypt Coach Hossam Hassan Confronts Fan Waving Israeli Flag After World Cup Exit

Following Egypt's 3-2 loss to Argentina in the Round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup in Atlanta, Egyptian national team coach Hossam Hassan clashed with a fan waving an Israeli flag in the stands. The incident occurred immediately after the final whistle, as Hassan was heading to the locker rooms. He confronted the fan, prompting security to intervene and restrain him. Hassan also had a brief confrontation with a photographer present at the scene before continuing to the locker room, ending the episode.

The tension was heightened by Hassan's earlier remarks before the match, where he addressed the conflict in the Middle East, specifically Israel's war with Gaza, stating, "If anyone in the world hasn't felt the pain of the Palestinian people, they are not human." This statement had already drawn attention and added context to the post-match confrontation.

Egypt's defeat eliminated them from the tournament, allowing defending champions Argentina to advance to the quarterfinals. The incident underscores the intersection of sports and political tensions amid the ongoing regional conflict.
