Mysterious Shaft Discovered at Entrance to Rabbi Nachman of Breslov's Burial Site in Uman

The story · English

During renovation and flooring work at the entrance to the burial complex of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov in Uman, a shaft leading to an underground chamber about two meters deep was uncovered. The purpose and date of the shaft's excavation remain unknown. The shaft was found near the main entrance to the site, which is being prepared for the arrival of thousands of pilgrims for Rosh Hashanah. Although the shaft's existence was known, it had been covered since expansion work on the site in 1998. Rabbi Natan Ben Nun, chairman of the Breslov Union in Uman, ordered the work around the shaft to be halted and instructed that it be filled with concrete. The Breslov Union announced plans for a large-scale reconstruction project of the entire complex after the Tishrei holidays. Meanwhile, preparations continue for Rosh Hashanah with the help of volunteers and devotees who traveled to Uman specifically to assist.
