Mysterious Underground Shaft Discovered at Rabbi Nachman’s Tomb in Uman
During renovation work at the tomb complex of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov in Uman, Ukraine, workers uncovered a mysterious underground shaft near the main entrance. The shaft, about two meters deep and covering roughly two square meters, was found beneath concrete and heavy flooring dating back to the expansion of the site around 1998. The purpose and origin of the shaft remain unknown, as it had been completely sealed for years.
Rabbi Natan Ben Nun, chairman of the Breslov Union in Uman, who is overseeing the preparations for the upcoming Rosh Hashanah pilgrimage, immediately halted all excavation in the area to prevent any desecration of graves. He ordered the shaft to be filled with concrete to secure the site.
The Breslov Union emphasized that after the holidays, a major reconstruction project will commence to rebuild the entire tomb complex. Meanwhile, activists and Breslov Hasidim currently in Uman continue working on the site to prepare for the arrival of thousands of pilgrims expected for Rosh Hashanah 5787.
