Israeli Torah Scholar Released From Prison Receives Festive Welcome in Emmanuel

A celebratory reception was held in the city of Emmanuel to mark the release of Rabbi Moshe Mordechai Dovdevani, a Torah scholar who was imprisoned for refusing to enlist in the Israeli military. The event was organized by the "Notnim Gev" organization and attended by local rabbis, public figures, and hundreds of residents from Emmanuel and surrounding areas.

During the ceremony, Rabbi Dovdevani paraded through the streets atop a horse-drawn carriage, accompanied by a procession of supporters to the main gathering site. Speeches were delivered by Rabbi Moshe Avraham Golinsky, rabbi of the Salons community in Emmanuel and son-in-law of Rabbi Moshe Berzovsky, head of the Salons yeshivas, as well as Rabbi Shlomo Klein, the Hasidic community rabbi of the city.

The rabbis addressed the issue of yeshiva students imprisoned for draft refusal, emphasizing the spiritual significance of their sacrifice according to the teachings of leading rabbinic authorities. They also criticized the state and military authorities for their persecution of these students. The event underscored the community's support for Torah scholars who prioritize religious study over military service.
