Ashdod Residents Celebrate Release of Torah Scholar Detained by Military Prison

Thousands of Ashdod residents gathered on Friday morning to celebrate the release of Elchanan Mizrahi, a student of the Tiferet Yonatan Yehoshua yeshiva, who was known as a "Torah scholar prisoner" after being sentenced and held in a military prison. Mizrahi was arrested and handed over by the military police while on his way home some time ago. He was released on the morning before Tisha B'Av, and a festive reception was held in his honor.

Upon his arrival in his neighborhood in Ashdod, crowds welcomed him with singing and dancing in the streets. Mizrahi was lifted onto the shoulders of supporters who cheered and expressed deep appreciation for his steadfastness. Following the street celebrations, friends, family, and associates gathered for a breakfast in the family yard.

The event featured speeches starting with Rabbi Israel Meir Zabihi, head of the Tiferet Yonatan Yehoshua yeshiva, who praised Mizrahi's endurance. Rabbi Meir Kinin, head of the Lev Yitzchak yeshiva in Ashdod, and Rabbi Yuval Avrahami also delivered words of encouragement. Mizrahi himself spoke emotionally, sharing his feelings and the merit he felt in dedicating himself to Torah study during his time in military prison.
