Romanian Presidential Front-Runner George Simion Affirms Support for Judea and Samaria

George Simion, the leading candidate for Romania's presidency, met with Yossi Dagan, head of the Shomron Regional Council, to express support for Judea and Samaria and their joint fight against terrorism. Their relationship has developed over four years through visits and ongoing dialogue aimed at strengthening cooperation. During the meeting, Dagan emphasized the strategic and historical importance of Judea and Samaria to Israel, while Simion conveyed his commitment to peace, security, and combating terrorism in the region.

Simion, who narrowly lost the Romanian presidential runoff in May 2025, has since helped topple the left-wing government through coalition efforts, positioning himself as the leading candidate for the next parliamentary elections expected in November 2026. Current polls show his party leading with 42% support, compared to 19% in the present parliament.

Dagan presented Simion with a unique gift featuring biblical sites in Shomron, and the two released a joint video statement. Simion extended greetings to the residents of Judea and Samaria, stressing the importance of peace and the fight against terrorism for the free world. Dagan reciprocated by highlighting shared values and enemies, expressing confidence in their joint future success in Europe and Israel.

Two weeks earlier, Dagan also met with Slovenia's newly elected Prime Minister Janez Janša, who is expected to oppose EU sanctions against Israel and Judea and Samaria. Janša sent blessings to the residents of Shomron and expressed hopes for enduring friendship between Israel and Slovenia.
