Romanian Presidential Candidate George Simion Affirms Strategic Importance of West Bank to Israel

Yossi Dagan, head of the Shomron Regional Council, held an official diplomatic meeting with George Simion, leader of the Romanian opposition and presidential candidate. Their relationship has developed over four years through joint visits and ongoing dialogue aimed at strengthening cooperation. During the meeting, Dagan emphasized the strategic and historical significance of Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) for Israel. Simion, who narrowly lost the Romanian presidential runoff in May 2025, recently helped topple Romania's left-wing government through coalition efforts, with new elections expected by November 2026. Current polls show Simion leading with 42% support, positioning him as the likely next prime minister and leader of Romania's largest party.

Dagan presented Simion with a unique gift featuring biblical sites in the West Bank, and they issued a joint video statement. Simion congratulated West Bank residents, expressing hope for peace, security, and an end to terrorism, stating, "We need peace, we must stop the terrorists and fight together for the free world." Dagan reciprocated by highlighting Judea and Samaria as "the heart of the State of Israel and the entire world," stressing shared enemies and values and a joint commitment to building the future in Europe and Israel.

Additionally, two weeks prior, Dagan met with Slovenia's newly elected Prime Minister Janez Janša, who is expected to oppose EU sanctions against Israel and the West Bank. They released a joint statement, with Janša sending blessings to West Bank residents and wishing for long-lasting friendship between Israel and Slovenia.
