Palestinian Activist Shares Photo of Cristiano Ronaldo with Palestinian Scarf

Palestinian activist Hani Thaljiyeh, founder of the Palestinian women's national football team, shared a post on Instagram bidding farewell to Cristiano Ronaldo following his retirement from the Portuguese national team. The post included a photograph, which Thaljiyeh claims was taken in 2009, showing Ronaldo wearing a Palestinian scarf. Thaljiyeh described the moment of gifting him the scarf as one she never forgot.

According to Thaljiyeh, the photo dates back to the 2009 FIFA Ballon d'Or ceremony at the Opera House. She stated that Palestine was recognized at the event for being the most improved association in 2008, and she had the honor of presenting Ronaldo with the Palestinian scarf. She emphasized that while it was a small moment, it was unforgettable for her.

Thaljiyeh also reflected on Ronaldo's impact on football, noting that the sport transcends goals and titles, encompassing moments, emotions, and lasting memories. She credited him with providing the world with countless such moments.

The Instagram post garnered over 12,000 likes and numerous comments, with many users questioning the authenticity of the photograph. Thaljiyeh, however, maintained that the image is genuine. The post also served as a platform for pro-Palestinian users to post comments critical of Israel.
