Arab media outlets, particularly Palestinian ones, have reported a wave of criticism and anger among some Barcelona fans regarding the club's intention to extend the contract of 17-year-old Israeli player Oriane Goren. Reports from agencies like "Sanad" and outlets such as "Al-Kufiya" and "Al-Siyassi" claim that fans are protesting the move, arguing it contradicts the club's historical solidarity with the Palestinian cause. Some critics reportedly view the celebrations of Goren's achievements as a stark contrast to the situation of Palestinian football amid the war in Gaza. However, the reports lack specific data or identified responses to gauge the extent of this opposition within the Barcelona fanbase, and the wording in some reports is notably similar. Barcelona has not announced any changes to its professional plans for Goren, who has a contract until 2028. Coach Hansi Flick reportedly favors integrating Goren more regularly with the senior team while he continues his development with Barcelona Athletic. Goren has been included in the senior squad for matches against Real Madrid and Aston Villa this season but has not yet made his official debut. The controversy arises shortly after Goren chose to represent the Israeli national team over the Czech Republic. He has been called up to the senior Israeli squad for upcoming Nations League matches against Kosovo and Austria, with hopes in Israel that his progress at Barcelona will translate into significant contributions to the national team.
