Hundreds of recruits from the Nahal Brigade participated in a special race this week in memory of Lieutenant Colonel Roi Yosef Mordechai, who fell in battles in the Gaza Strip in January 2024 during the Swords of Iron War. The recruits wore shirts bearing Mordechai's image to commemorate him and pass on his legacy to the younger generation of fighters.
Commanders of the brigade, including the commander of the brigade's training base, also ran alongside the recruits and Mordechai's family. Among the family members present were his parents, siblings, his widow Netta, and their three-year-old daughter, Uri. Netta is the daughter of retired Major General Yoav (Poli) Mordechai.
During the event, Netta delivered a moving speech to the recruits and commanders. She shared what she believed her husband would want to convey to the young soldiers embarking on their combat service. "I thought about what Roi would say to you," Netta began. "Be good, excel in everything you do. Every small action is part of a larger mosaic of mission, of love for the land and our homeland. The combination of body and soul victory is stronger than anything."
