Israel's Ministry of Health issued an urgent directive on Thursday for residents of Kfar Chabad to boil all tap water before use, following the detection of abnormal water quality test results. The instruction mandates boiling water for drinking, cooking, preparing medication, and brushing teeth. Residents can continue to use the water for bathing and sanitation purposes without boiling.
The ministry stated that the directive will remain in effect until further notice. This is not the first time in recent months that the Health Ministry has issued similar instructions to communities in Israel. Approximately two months ago, a comparable warning was issued to residents of Karmiel due to anomalous sampling results from routine water quality tests.
In past similar incidents, such as one in Shefa-Amr about three years ago, such directives were lifted only after subsequent tests confirmed the water quality had returned to normal. In these situations, the Ministry of Health instructs water suppliers to take immediate action to rectify the problem and conduct repeat quality tests.
The ministry emphasized that domestic water filtration devices, including popular brands like Tami 4, water coolers, and other filtration systems, do not substitute for boiling water when quality issues are detected. Residents must boil water even after it has been filtered, as clarified in previous similar directives.
The Ministry of Health conducts regular, periodic water sampling in communities nationwide as part of its oversight of drinking water quality. When anomalies are found, the ministry acts promptly to issue public directives and coordinate repair efforts with water suppliers. Kfar Chabad residents are urged to comply with the current instructions and await further updates from the Ministry of Health regarding the lifting of the restriction.
