Israeli Border Police undercover officers (Mista'arvim) arrested a key suspect on Wednesday who allegedly managed a network for smuggling dozens of illegal infiltrators into Israel daily from the West Bank. The 46-year-old suspect, a resident of the village of Athel in the Ephraim Brigade area, is accused of operating an organized smuggling operation. Intelligence indicated that he would collect between 30 and 40 illegal residents from the West Bank each day and transport them into Israel via the Jerusalem perimeter. He reportedly charged each person between 550 and 700 shekels for the smuggling service.
The suspect had previously evaded several arrest attempts by security forces and is also suspected of involvement in weapons offenses. The arrest occurred during an operational activity in Athel, following focused intelligence and operational efforts. The suspect has been transferred for further investigation by the Investigation and Intelligence Department of the West Bank Border Police.
This arrest is part of ongoing efforts by security forces to combat the persistent challenge of smuggling illegal residents, which poses both security and economic threats. The article also referenced other recent incidents, including the arrest of 59 illegal residents attempting to cross the border fence near Jerusalem using ladders, and another case where 27 illegal residents were caught hidden in tractor carts, along with their alleged transporter.
Authorities expect to file charges against the suspect. Security forces are continuing widespread operations to locate and apprehend additional smuggling networks throughout the West Bank.
