  • 39 sheep and cattle carcasses were seized from a farm in northern Israel.
  • The meat was illegally slaughtered outside of an approved facility without veterinary supervision.
  • Officials warned the meat poses a public health risk due to lack of inspection.
  • The seized meat was destroyed, and the farm owner will be investigated.
  • The public is urged to buy meat only from licensed and supervised sources.

Israeli police and the Ministry of Agriculture's Enforcement and Investigations Unit discovered 34 sheep carcasses and five cattle carcasses at a farm in the village of Muqeibleh, near the Iron Interchange in northern Israel. The meat was slaughtered outside of an approved slaughterhouse, without veterinary supervision, a practice known as "black market slaughter." Ministry officials warned that meat from such unregulated slaughter poses a risk to public health because it has not undergone veterinary inspection to ensure the animals were healthy and the meat is fit for consumption.

The seized meat was transferred for destruction, and the farm owner will be summoned for questioning. The Ministry of Agriculture urged the public to purchase meat only from licensed and supervised sources.

Moshe Aharak, Director of the Central Unit for Enforcement and Investigations at the Ministry of Agriculture, stated, "Black market slaughter endangers public health. Without veterinary supervision, there is no way to ensure the meat is fit for human consumption. We are working to locate such meat and prevent it from reaching the public's plates. The meat seized was destroyed, and we will continue to work with all enforcement agencies against this dangerous phenomenon."
