Egypt has provided Israel with new assurances regarding its development projects on the Sinai Peninsula, following reports in Israeli media expressing concern over these plans. Experts told Asharq Al-Awsat that these initiatives aim to underscore the irreversibility of Sinai's development for Egypt's national security and to emphasize Cairo's view that these decisions are an internal matter. Egypt's Minister of Transport, Kamel al-Wazir, stated that the 500-kilometer Arish-Taba railway is purely an infrastructure project. He refuted fears of a military purpose for the railway, noting that the project, along with new settlements and factories, will help populate the region with Egyptians. Israeli media had previously published materials highlighting potential strategic and military risks associated with the railway, suggesting it could facilitate the movement of personnel and cargo across the peninsula. Responding to these concerns during a visit to North Sinai, al-Wazir reiterated that the railway is for peaceful development and there is no cause for alarm. Military expert Major General Ayman Abdel Mohsen commented that Egypt will proceed with its infrastructure plans regardless of Israel's position. Meanwhile, Major General Adel al-Omda, an advisor at the Military Academy for Postgraduate Studies and Strategic Education, reminded that by 2030, authorities intend to relocate between 3 to 8 million people to the peninsula as part of a comprehensive national strategy.
