Grieving Couple Who Lost Parents in October 7 Massacre Celebrate Wedding in Sderot

Shahar Shitrit and Shaked Magira, both from Sderot and who lost their parents in the October 7, 2023 massacre, recently married, finding hope amid profound loss. Shaked Magira is the son of Avi Magira, who was killed while riding his motorcycle on the morning of October 7. Shahar Shitrit is the daughter of Naomi Shitrit, who was murdered the same day while out for a run. To honor their parents on their wedding day, the couple decorated the venue with balloons bearing photos of their parents and the inscription "Forever with me." A guest captured the moment and expressed heartfelt emotions, saying, "Dear Naomi, I have no doubt you are accompanying your little girl on this joyful and moving day."

The couple got engaged in February 2026, and Alon Davidi, the mayor of Sderot, shared his excitement on Facebook, acknowledging the pain of their loss but emphasizing the strength of life and enduring love. He congratulated them on behalf of the city’s residents, saying, "We are excited with you!" This wedding symbolizes resilience and the continuation of life despite tragedy. The event took place at the Nova complex parking lot in Sderot on July 2, 2026, during the Thousand Days Protest against the October 7 war.
