  • The Shin Bet reportedly wants to investigate Odeh over alleged foreign interference.
  • Odeh and the Joint List claim the investigation is politically motivated persecution.
  • They allege Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office is behind the probe.
  • Odeh stated his return shows he is not afraid of the proceedings.

Knesset Member Ayman Odeh has decided to cut short his family vacation and return to Israel a day after it was revealed that the Shin Bet security agency requested to investigate him over alleged foreign interference. Sources indicate Odeh is expected back today, with close associates stating his return is intended to demonstrate he is unafraid of the proceedings. They claim the investigation is politically motivated, aiming to weaponize the Shin Bet against political opponents of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Odeh himself commented on the revelations yesterday, asserting that the high turnout of Arab citizens in the elections angered Netanyahu and "fascists," leading them to "shoot in all directions" out of fear of losing power. He characterized the investigation as political persecution that would soon dissipate, urging continued responsible action to replace the current government. The Joint List issued a statement condemning the "political targeting" of Odeh, viewing it as a dangerous escalation of incitement against the Arab public and leadership, and an attempt to undermine their voting legitimacy.

Professor Yousef Jabareen, head of the Joint List, told Hala TV that the Joint List representatives would be loyal to the Arab community in the Knesset following their significant electoral support. Regarding Odeh's case, Jabareen described it as "serious political persecution," alleging that orders for the investigation, including police actions on election day, originated from the Prime Minister's office. He claimed the Prime Minister directed the Shin Bet chief, who in turn instructed the police to make arrests, all allegedly illegally.
