Joint List Head Warns of Attempts to Use Shin Bet to Overturn Election Results

Professor Yousef Jabareen, head of the Joint List, has warned against political coups aimed at overturning election results and the potential misuse of the Shin Bet security agency for political purposes. He stated that the campaign led by Benjamin Netanyahu and Itamar Ben-Gvir against the Arab vote and its elected representatives resembles practices of dictatorial and authoritarian regimes.

Jabareen criticized Ben-Gvir's call to arrest all Arab party leaders, bypass the government's legal advisor, and freeze election results, describing it as an explicit call to overthrow the democratic process and the will of the voters. He emphasized that these attempts aim to delegitimize Arab representatives and progressive Jewish forces, infringing upon the rights of hundreds of thousands of citizens who exercised their democratic right to vote.

He highlighted that the head of the Central Elections Committee affirmed the integrity of the electoral process and the necessity of respecting its outcomes. Jabareen asserted that the votes of the Arab population and progressive Jewish forces are no less legitimate than others, and neither Netanyahu nor Ben-Gvir have the right to nullify results they dislike. The Joint List intends to use its parliamentary power to end the Netanyahu and Ben-Gvir governments, defend their rights, and achieve their demands.
