Unusual Storm Warning Issued for Sharon Region as Flash Floods Possible

A significant rain system is expected to hit Israel's Sharon region starting Thursday and continuing through Sunday. Forecasters predict that the region's streams may begin flowing for the first time this season. In anticipation, the Sharon Drainage and Rivers Authority issued an unusual warning to the public on Wednesday, urging extreme caution near streams, drainage ditches, and "Irish crossings" (low-water crossings).

The authority emphasized the "real danger" posed by flooded crossings, warning that strong currents could sweep away vehicles and people, even if the water appears shallow. The public is advised to stay away from stream banks, avoid hiking in stream beds during and immediately after rainfall, supervise children closely, and obey instructions from rescue forces and roadblocks.

Ran Perahi, CEO of the Sharon Drainage and Rivers Authority, stated, "The first flow of the season often arrives when the public is not yet accustomed to it, and streams can fill up faster than expected. An Irish crossing with flowing water is a real danger, and no shortcut is worth the risk." The authority's teams are preparing for the storm and will coordinate with local authorities and rescue services.
