Hapoel Be'er Sheva Missed Out on Champions League Star Striker

Hapoel Be'er Sheva's former scout, Dudu Azaria, revealed in an interview with Sport 5 that the club had the opportunity to sign Anastasios Douvikas, who is currently excelling in Serie A and the Champions League. Azaria explained that when Douvikas was playing for Volos in Greece between 2020 and 2021, the club inquired about him. However, Volos demanded approximately one million euros, a sum Hapoel Be'er Sheva could not afford at the time. Douvikas subsequently moved to Utrecht and is now a prominent player, having scored eight goals in 13 appearances for his current club this season, including three goals in three Champions League matches.

Azaria also shared insights into the signing of player Miguel Vítor. He described Vítor as a wonderful player and person, recalling that after the team's first championship win, the budget was increased to bring in a defender. Azaria found it challenging to convince Vítor to join, eventually persuading him by highlighting the possibility of winning a championship with Hapoel Be'er Sheva, contrasting it with the difficulties he might face at other clubs. Vítor's arrival coincided with the team's championship win.

Additionally, Azaria touched upon Kings Kangwa, who was part of Hapoel Be'er Sheva's U-19 team. Kangwa left due to a lack of space for another foreign player. He was later sold to Red Star Belgrade for a significant sum before Hapoel Be'er Sheva re-signed him. Azaria described Kangwa as a player who can dictate the pace of the game, comparing him to Superman, but noted his inconsistency.
