Miriam Adelson Sells Stake in Dallas Mavericks to Daughter and Son-in-Law

Israeli-American billionaire Miriam Adelson has sold her shares in the NBA's Dallas Mavericks less than three years after co-purchasing a controlling stake in the team. The sale was made to her daughter, Sivan Ochshorn, and son-in-law, Patrick Dumont, and was finalized in October. Ochshorn and Dumont now own 69% of the club, while businessman Mark Cuban retains 27%.

The sale amount was not disclosed, but the transaction follows a significant increase in the Mavericks' valuation. In December 2023, the Adelson family acquired control of the team at a valuation of approximately $3.5 billion, financing the purchase by selling $2 billion in Las Vegas Sands stock. Current estimates from Forbes place the Mavericks' value at $5.8 billion, with Sportico estimating it at $6.35 billion, indicating a substantial rise in value.

A notable clause in the original agreement with Cuban grants Dumont the option to purchase an additional 20% of the Mavericks' shares at the 2023 valuation of around $700 million. This stake could be worth between $1.16 billion and $1.27 billion at current valuations. If exercised, the Dumont family's holdings could increase to 89% of the club.

Dumont, who also serves as CEO of Las Vegas Sands, has been actively managing the Mavericks in recent years, with Adelson's direct involvement being limited. He is now set to become the primary figure in the team's ownership, following a period of significant team changes. The new owners plan to invest in a new arena in North Dallas, along with a commercial and entertainment complex, aiming for completion by the 2031/32 season. Dumont stated the goal is to provide the Mavericks with a home for decades and return the team to championship contention.

Adelson, 81, an Israeli-born physician, is one of the world's wealthiest women, with her fortune largely derived from the Las Vegas Sands casino and hotel empire founded by her late husband, Sheldon Adelson. The family maintains control of the company, which operates major resorts in Macau and Singapore. Forbes estimated Adelson's net worth at $31 billion as of November 3, 2026. She also publishes the Israeli newspaper "Israel Hayom" and is a significant donor to the Republican Party and former President Donald Trump. Her son, Matan Adelson, owns the Hapoel Jerusalem basketball team.
