The head of Israel's domestic security agency, the Shin Bet, David Zini, has requested authorization from the government's legal advisor, Gali Baharav-Miara, to interrogate four prominent Arab political figures as suspects in an election interference case. The individuals targeted include Ahmad Tibi, a Member of Knesset and chairman of the Ta'al party; Mansour Abbas, chairman of the Ra'am party; Sami Abou Shehadeh, chairman of the Balad party; and an additional MK whose identity is currently undisclosed. Abou Shehadeh had previously been disqualified from an election.

As of the report, no interrogations have commenced. Legal advisor Baharav-Miara has requested to review the evidence supporting the suspicions before making a decision. Reportedly, only documents pertaining to the unnamed MK have been provided, with a broad consensus among relevant officials regarding significant evidence against this individual. A joint investigation team comprising the Shin Bet and police has been agreed upon, though the security service had not yet shared its documents with the police two days after this agreement.

Mansour Abbas has denounced the allegations as an attempt to discredit the Arab public, calling the situation "unacceptable." He stated that he and his Ra'am colleagues are prepared to cooperate fully with law enforcement, provided it aligns with the directives of the legal advisor and the judicial system. Abbas commended institutions for their commitment to the law over political interests and urged authorities to respect voter intent and ensure legality.

Conversely, the Likud party has accused Gali Baharav-Miara of obstructing the investigation and applying the law selectively. The party alleges she has restricted the use of certain investigative methods typically employed in security matters and attempted to downplay the security aspects of the case. Benjamin Netanyahu's party has called on Judge Noam Sohlberg and the Central Elections Committee to clarify the matter and provide public answers.
