Shin Bet chief David Baruch has asked Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara to investigate four senior Arab politicians, including Ahmad Tibi, Mansour Abbas, and Sami Abu Shehadeh. The Attorney General requires evidence before approving the probes, which has only been provided for one unnamed MK so far. A joint investigation team with the police has been agreed upon, but has not yet begun due to the Shin Bet not sharing materials.

  • Shin Bet chief David Baruch wants Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara to investigate four Arab politicians.
  • The targeted politicians include Ahmad Tibi, Mansour Abbas, and Sami Abu Shehadeh.
  • A fourth senior MK is also targeted, with significant evidence reportedly existing against him.
  • The Attorney General has not yet received sufficient evidence to approve probes for three of the politicians.
  • A joint Shin Bet-police investigation has not yet started as materials have not been transferred.

The head of the Shin Bet, David Baruch, has requested that the Attorney General, Gali Baharav-Miara, authorize a formal investigation into four senior Arab politicians. The individuals targeted are Ahmad Tibi, chairman of Ta'al and a Member of Knesset (MK); Mansour Abbas, chairman of Ra'am; Sami Abu Shehadeh, chairman of Balad who was disqualified from running in elections; and a senior MK whose name cannot be published, but regarding whom there is reportedly unanimous agreement that significant evidence exists against him.

Baharav-Miara had previously requested to see the evidence against the MKs before granting her approval. However, this has not yet occurred for any of the politicians, except for the unnamed senior MK. It was agreed that a joint investigation team comprising the Shin Bet and the police would be established. Despite two days having passed since this agreement, the Shin Bet has not yet transferred the relevant materials to the police, and therefore, the investigation has not commenced.

During a meeting, Baruch reportedly made an "embarrassing" remark, stating, "We will request to investigate also the MK, well, what's his name, Mansour Abbas."
