British singer Boy George visited the site of the Nova music festival near Kibbutz Reim on Tuesday to meet with survivors, former hostages, and bereaved families. He was accompanied by Sylvan Adams, president of the Israeli branch of the World Jewish Congress, for a private tour and a press conference hosted by former hostage Omer Shem Tov. Shem Tov, who was abducted from the festival and held in Gaza for 505 days, welcomed the artist along with representatives from the Tribe of Nova association and festival co-founders.
Boy George expressed his deep distress over the massacre and voiced horror at denial of the events. "What horrified me even more was to hear people who had no connection to what happened tell me that it wasn't true, that it had all been invented," he stated. He also spoke of messages from his Jewish friends in London who felt unsafe and hesitant to wear their Star of David. "My Jewish friends are my family, and you protect your family. I couldn't stand by and do nothing," he said.
The singer's connection to the Nova survivors began with his visit to the Nova 06:29 exhibition in London. Testimonies and encounters there inspired his song "We Will Dance Again," released this year to honor victims and support the Jewish people. "Writing 'We Will Dance Again' had nothing to do with advancing my career. It came from what I felt deeply," he explained, highlighting the lyric "If you have any doubt, I stand with the Jews."
Invited to Israel by Sylvan Adams, Boy George is scheduled to perform on November 4 and 7 at the Menora Mivtachim Arena in Tel Aviv. His November 4 concert is sold out. At his request, the November 7 show will be dedicated to the Nova community and its families. Adams and the Museum of Tolerance Jerusalem have provided 1,500 tickets for distribution to survivors and victims' relatives through the Tribe of Nova association.
Adams praised the singer's decision to visit Israel despite boycott calls, stating, "Your concert will be much more than a show." Boy George's visit followed a day in Jerusalem where he visited the Western Wall, met with President Isaac Herzog and former hostage Elkana Bohbot, and toured the 06:29, From Darkness to Light exhibition at the Museum of Tolerance.
