Public Transport Ranking: Tanufa and Dan Beersheba Score Lowest

A new semi-annual report from the National Public Transport Authority, headed by Idan Moalem, has revealed that Tanufa and Dan Beersheba received the lowest scores in the first half of 2026. The report, published every six months, assesses service quality, operator compliance with tender conditions, and aims to incentivize performance improvements.

This ranking comes amid stricter enforcement policies, which have increased the weight of service quality in tenders from 52% to 65%. Consequently, operators with low scores risk losing eligibility for new tenders, intensifying competition among public transport companies.

The national average score for operators in this period was 76.96, a slight increase of about 2.3% from the previous report. Smaller companies and regional councils dominated the top rankings, with Eilot Regional Council's company leading at 88.69, followed by Golan Regional Council at 87.05, and S.A.M. operating in the Nazareth area at 85.66. Among larger companies, Electra Afikim showed significant improvement, scoring 84.62, while the country's largest operator, Egged, ranked tenth with 82.18.

Tanufa finished last with a score of 50.89, a decrease of 8.82%, attributed to poor service in its operating areas in Judea and Samaria and Beit Shemesh. Dan Beersheba also saw a sharp decline, dropping 13.25% to 63.49. Other companies scoring below the national average include Extra Jerusalem, Metropolin, Dan, Kavim, and G.B. Tours.

A significant factor in the scores was the percentage of canceled or delayed trips. Tanufa's Jerusalem Corridor cluster reported a 9.15% non-completion rate, and its Samaria cluster reported 6.13%. Extra Jerusalem had an 11.68% non-completion rate, and Dan Beersheba's Beersheba urban cluster reported 5.60%. Conversely, Eilot, Golan, and S.A.M. reported very low non-completion rates.

Interestingly, passenger satisfaction surveys presented a contrasting picture, with larger companies like Jerusalem-Ramallah Union (3.84/5), Dan Beersheba (3.72), and Egged (3.68) ranking higher, while Golan Regional Council (2.93) and Eilot (3.58) scored lower in passenger satisfaction than in the official ranking. The report notes that the official ranking does not account for the operational difficulties faced by companies in dense urban areas, such as heavy traffic and high passenger volume, which can inherently affect punctuality and service metrics.
