  • Shin Bet will provide security for Gadi Eisenkot starting Wednesday due to political tensions.
  • Eisenkot, chairman of "Yesh!", is a former IDF Chief of Staff and cabinet minister.
  • The decision reflects an escalation in security measures and perceived threat level.
  • Change Bloc leaders met to discuss strategy, including removing the Knesset Speaker.
  • They agreed to avoid relying on Arab parties but to talk with Haredi factions.

The Shin Bet's state unit for the security of dignitaries and delegations, Unit 730, will officially begin providing security for Gadi Eisenkot, chairman of the "Yesh!" party and former IDF Chief of Staff and cabinet minister, starting Wednesday. The decision was made following a special assessment by security officials and the Shin Bet, citing political developments.

Unit 730 typically handles the close protection of Israel's seven top leaders, including the Prime Minister, President, Defense Minister, Opposition Leader, and Supreme Court President, as well as other individuals deemed at high risk. The transfer of Eisenkot's security to the Shin Bet signifies an escalation in the level of protection and alertness surrounding him, involving close protection officers, access control, and special security arrangements for all his public appearances and activities.

The decision comes amid heightened political tensions following the election results. Eisenkot has reportedly stated in closed conversations that he would not serve in a government led by Benjamin Netanyahu. He also clarified, according to reports, that while he would respect a call from President Trump to meet, he would insist that the matter is internal to Israel and prevent foreign intervention.

Concurrently, leaders of the "Change Bloc" met on Tuesday, including Eisenkot, Naftali Bennett, Avigdor Lieberman, Yair Golan, and Yair Lapid. They agreed to work towards removing the current Knesset Speaker, Amir Ohana, but did not reach a consensus on the identity of the next Speaker. A senior source from the bloc told "Kikar HaShabat" that all attendees agreed not to form a government reliant on Arab parties but to engage in discussions with the Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) parties.
