Israel's Election Commission discovered vote discrepancies, including the removal of 968 votes from Arab parties, during routine checks. This occurs as a separate investigation into alleged foreign interference and illicit funding in the Arab sector continues. The Israeli Election Commission has identified discrepancies in vote tallies, including the deduction of 968 votes from Arab parties during routine checks. These findings emerged as a separate investigation into alleged foreign interference in the Knesset elections, including illicit funding to influence Arab sector turnout, intensifies. Avraham Yustman reported the vote deduction on Tuesday morning, noting that the commission updated its website with the new data on Monday evening. While these adjustments are part of standard post-election verification processes, which involve re-examining polling stations, correcting errors, and reviewing complaints, they come amid a high-profile probe by the Shin Bet, police, and state prosecution.

The controversy escalated when Ilan Bombach, Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission representing the Likud party, requested an urgent meeting of the commission's presidium to discuss the interference investigation. However, Commission Chairman Judge Noam Solberg denied the request, stating that neither the presidium nor the plenum has the authority to interfere with the investigation or delay the publication of results. Solberg cited Knesset laws requiring the official results to be published within eight days of the election, emphasizing his role is limited to counting valid votes and determining seat distribution, not invalidating votes or postponing announcements.

Solberg also cautioned that disclosing details about the investigation could jeopardize it, though law enforcement agencies are reportedly working to conclude their work swiftly. Earlier, Solberg had stated that the elections were conducted properly and that current evidence does not cast doubt on the overall outcome, despite the seriousness of the suspicions. The dispute intensified after the Likud party claimed that only 4,612 votes separated the current seat distribution from a scenario where one seat would shift from UAL to the right-wing bloc. The Likud has called for a thorough investigation before any conclusions are drawn about the impact on the final results. The final election results are scheduled to be submitted to the president on Wednesday, as mandated by law.
