Rabbi Dov Landau, a prominent Rosh Yeshiva, delivered a sharp address in London on the plight of yeshiva students and Kollel members in Israel. Speaking at a special dinner, he decried the ongoing persecution and increasing decrees against Torah scholars, as well as the contempt with which they are treated by the ignorant.
"You all know that the yeshiva students and Kollel members in the Land of Israel are persecuted, and day by day the decrees that the authorities impose upon them increase, may God protect us," Rabbi Landau stated to the London Jewish community. He further addressed the painful phenomenon of the humiliation of Torah students, saying, "The ignorant humiliate the yeshiva students, treating Torah scholars with contempt and disdain."
The Rosh Yeshiva noted that recently, individuals from "our stray brethren" who were once enemies are now competing to see who can call Torah learners the most derogatory names. However, Rabbi Landau emphasized the great importance of the warm reception that envoys of tens of thousands of Torah learners receive in the Diaspora. "When envoys of tens of thousands of Torah learners from the Land of Israel arrive in the Diaspora, and in every city and every country they are received by the people of God with joy and honor, and with a strong desire to come to God's aid with the mighty, how precious and great is this for the groaning Torah learners in the Land of Israel," he said.
He added that the honor and encouragement provided by the Diaspora community to Torah learners constitute immense strengthening for the highly valued yeshiva students and Kollel members who toil in Torah amidst hardship and fear of decrees.
