American defense tech company Palantir surpassed analyst expectations for the third quarter, reporting a 96% surge in revenue to $2.31 billion, exceeding the projected $2.18 billion. The company also raised its annual revenue forecast, driven by increasing demand from organizations seeking to leverage AI technologies while maintaining strict control over their data. Palantir's commercial operations in the U.S. led this growth, with revenues there jumping 148% to $984 million. Revenue from U.S. government contracts reached $953 million, a 96% increase year-over-year. This marks the first time Palantir's U.S. commercial client revenue has surpassed its government sector revenue.

The company's net profit was $1.13 billion, compared to $475.6 million in the same period last year. Adjusted earnings per share stood at 44 cents, above the analyst consensus of 41 cents. For the second quarter, Palantir reported revenues of $1.94 billion and a net profit of $1.07 billion.

Palantir has now increased its full-year revenue projection to between $8.53 billion and $8.534 billion, up from a previous forecast of $8.15 billion to $8.158 billion. This new outlook anticipates at least a 143% growth in U.S. commercial revenue, which is expected to exceed $3.6 billion. The fourth-quarter forecast also significantly outpaces market expectations, with the company projecting around $2.65 billion in revenue against an analyst consensus of $2.46 billion.

Despite these strong results, investors remain concerned about Palantir's ability to sustain its growth rate and justify its market valuation, which has surpassed $400 billion. Palantir's stock experienced declines in after-hours trading. CEO Alex Karp stated in a letter to shareholders that the company is experiencing an expansion rate and operational intensity rarely seen in modern economic history.

Palantir, which develops data management and analysis software for corporations and government entities, has seen increased orders from the U.S. government in recent years. Its technology is integrated into U.S. military systems, including the AI-based Maven system used for target identification and operational decision-making. However, AI also presents a competitive threat, as large language models can analyze diverse datasets and aid decision-making, sometimes at lower costs. Analysts have warned that major AI companies are intensifying competition for Palantir's clients and employees. Karp himself has previously criticized AI labs for using proprietary company data to train their models, and he is considered a supporter of Israel, having stated that the U.S., China, and Israel are the only countries relevant to the global AI race.
