Hostage Survivor Emily Demari Urges Government to Ensure Security for Mothers and Preserve Heritage

Emily Demari, a survivor of captivity, spoke at the Herzliya Conference organized by the Institute for Policy and Strategy at Reichman University on Wednesday. In an emotional address, she expressed her expectations for the next Israeli government, emphasizing the need to provide basic security to mothers across the country. Demari highlighted the fear many experience, such as being startled by knocks on the door at night, and called for an end to such insecurity.

She also stressed the importance of significant government investment in education to ensure that the nation never forgets the traumatic events it has endured and can learn from them for future generations. Demari shared her personal involvement in a sensitive struggle to prevent the dismantling of the Dor HaTzair neighborhood, from which she was abducted. She described this area as holding immense value, representing the combat legacy of brave individuals and families who lost loved ones there.

Demari urged the government to prioritize remembrance, commemoration, and education related to this heritage. She framed her ongoing fight as part of her personal mission to tell her story for years to come and to preserve the memory of those sacrifices for the nation.
