Nineteen-year-old Daniel Dafah has emerged as a key player for Hapoel Tel Aviv, showcasing significant professional growth that was highlighted in their Toto Cup final victory. After being acquired for 1.8 million euros from Maccabi Netanya last year, Dafah initially struggled with missed opportunities, losing his starting position. However, recent performances, including a standout display in the Toto Cup final against Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he was instrumental in a 3-2 win, have demonstrated his improved capabilities.
Dafah's development is attributed to several factors, including a shift in his role on the field, increased intensity, and a stronger work ethic. Coach Eliniv Barda noted Dafah's enhanced performance, stating, "He has taken another step this year. He's doing what we ask in training, I'm happy for him. If he continues to work hard, the livelihood will come." The coaching staff consistently praises Dafah as one of the team's most diligent players, a testament to his dedication beyond his physical talent.
His tactical positioning has also evolved, with Dafah covering more ground and operating more on the wings, creating more attacking opportunities for Hapoel Tel Aviv. This improved movement, as seen in the Toto Cup final, allows him to draw defenders and open space for teammates like Douglas Owusu and Roee Alkohen. Dafah's increased engagement in duels, rising from 13.4 to 16.9 per 90 minutes, and a higher number of overall actions per game, indicate a more connected and intense presence on the field.
While Dafah has scored six goals this season, matching last year's total but with fewer in the league, his contribution extends beyond scoring. His ability to create space for faster players is a significant asset. Despite his youth, Dafah is preparing for his upcoming military service in the IDF, which may cause him to miss some games. He expressed his commitment to the team, stating, "The crowd told me they trust me. I want to give everything for this team."
