Suspect Arrested in Arson Attack on Elad Official's Car

Police in Israel have concluded a complex investigation into a series of threats against senior Elad municipality officials, announcing on Monday the identification of a suspect in the arson of a vehicle belonging to Shimon Suissa, Director of the Elad Mayor's Office. A resident of Givat Shmuel in his 20s is expected to face serious charges, with the Central District Prosecutor's Office preparing to file an indictment in the coming days. The investigation utilized advanced technological means and investigative tactics, including examination of the suspect's clothing and burns on his legs, to identify him. The incident occurred on the night of October 14th, when Suissa's car was set ablaze and a stun grenade was thrown at the home of Amnon Maximov, the municipality's Director General. Police believe the attacks were retaliatory, intended to intimidate officials due to municipal enforcement actions, particularly the demand to close an illegal business. The suspect arrested for the arson is not believed to be involved in the grenade incident, the investigation for which continues separately. The suspect's brother, initially arrested, was released to house arrest and faces charges related to threats.
