Muhammad Sweitat, a 21-year-old resident of Shfaram in the Galilee, was arrested on September 28 for security offenses. Following an investigation by the Shin Bet and the Northern District Police, an indictment is set to be filed against him in the Haifa Magistrate's Court on Monday. Sweitat faces charges of active membership in a terror organization after it was discovered he swore allegiance to ISIS. During his interrogation, it emerged that Sweitat repeatedly pledged loyalty to the terror group, supported its ideologies, and consumed its content. He also allegedly published ISIS material online, communicated with the organization's supporters, and attempted to recruit his friends to advance the group's activities. The indictment will be filed by prosecutor Segev Adler of the Haifa District Attorney's Office. In a joint statement, the Shin Bet and Israel Police stated they "view with great severity any involvement of Israeli citizens in activities that endanger the security of the state and its citizens, and will continue to act according to the authority granted to them by law and take all measures at their disposal to prosecute those involved in this activity."
