Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Yair Golan, leader of the "Achva" faction, announced they will recommend Gadi Eisenkot as the candidate to form the next government. This move follows a Maariv report on Thursday suggesting the possibility of forming a minority government with 41 Knesset members. Bennett's office stated that the former prime minister had consistently pledged to respect the voters' decision throughout the election campaign and has now informed Eisenkot of his choice. The "Achva" faction confirmed Bennett's decision.
Earlier reports indicated that Eisenkot's list had projected potential gains of 27 to 28 Knesset seats. However, a proposed union with Bennett did not materialize. Political commentator Ben Caspit noted that while polls at the time showed Eisenkot's list polling at 31 or 32 seats, they ultimately secured 33 seats running separately. Caspit speculated whether the momentum for Eisenkot was halted by discussions of a minority government and whether the failed union with Bennett prevented a greater victory, though these questions remain unanswered.
