Police Issue Hundreds of Tickets for Reckless Driving in Ashdod

Police in Israel's Southern District have concluded a large-scale operation targeting dangerous driving in the city of Ashdod. The operation focused on drivers of modified vehicles and motorcyclists engaging in risky maneuvers on city streets and in sand dunes. Over the past weekend, traffic inspectors issued 444 tickets for various traffic violations. Law enforcement officers documented numerous instances of driving under the influence and operating vehicles without valid licenses. Special attention was given to individuals operating off-road vehicles on public roads. Two vehicles were confiscated and impounded. Some incidents required the use of force and special equipment. In one case, a rider of a Sur-Ron electric motorcycle refused to stop, attempted to flee, and directed the bike at an officer, resulting in the rider falling and being apprehended. This individual was found to have never possessed a driver's license. In another incident, a motorcyclist ignored a stop signal and attempted to evade capture in residential areas. A police helicopter was deployed to track the motorcyclist, leading officers to a residential apartment where the suspect had hidden the motorcycle in the living room. The operation involved collaboration between traffic police, municipal security, and Border Police (MAGAV) units. Authorities stated they will continue to investigate reports of illegal street racing and plan to conduct similar checks regularly to ensure the safety of pedestrians and law-abiding drivers.
